    PID Communities, Collaboration, & Connection

    Are you interested in learning about how PID communities are working together on community engagement and creating connections between PIDs? Are you willing to share your community, collaboration, and connection experiences? During the PID Communities, Collaboration & Connection session, we’ll briefly share how multiple PID communities in the United States and Canada regularly work together on engagement opportunities and are also working within their communities on interconnecting PIDs. We’ll spend the next portion of the session in breakout discussion groups, learning about each other’s experiences. In the last quarter of the meeting, we’ll ask the breakout groups to report back to the larger group to share highlights, ideas, and questions that came out of our small group discussion. This will help us think about next steps and ways that we can further our common goals. We’re hoping that this will be an opportunity to learn from each other and head home with some fun, new ideas.

    PIDs and Open Infrastructure: International Collaboration for the Greater Good

    In this session, we will explore examples of widely used, global open source software platforms (OJS/OPS, DSpace Repository, and VIVO), and discuss how international collaborations, as well as the creation of global funding opportunities by ORCID and DataCite, have been integral to the success of the integration of PIDs in these systems. First, we will share our personal experiences bringing together a global network of collaborators who have pushed forward the development of the ORCID API integrations for both OJS/OPS and DSpace. Second, we will explore the collaborative work toward improving documentation and encouraging the use of the DataCite API integration within DSpace. Third, we will hear from the international VIVO community about their plans to make improvements to the ORCID API integration in VIVO.

    Exploring Research Collaboration Through Connected PIDs: ORCID & Crossref Data Visualization Using R and Tableau

    ​The ORCID US Community partnered with the Drexel University LEADING program to create a set of resources for visualizing publication collaboration activity based on public data from researchers’ ORCID records and Crossref DOI publication metadata. The resources include an R script that can be used to retrieve information about publishing collaborations between researchers at a home organization and other organizations across the globe. The resulting dataset can be imported into a Tableau Public dashboard template, to create a data visualization that can be shared with multiple stakeholders to emphasize how PIDs can be used to visualize researcher activity and impact.
