Setting the Stage for FAIR Digital Objects (FDOs) in Research
(National Library of Technology, 2024) Mathes, Tilo; Blanchi, Christophe; Kalman, Tibor; Hellstrom, Maggie; Bingert, Sven; Bach, Felix
The FAIR Digital Object (FDO) concept takes a further step, by requiring that much of the core metadata information is both accessible directly at the point of resolving an object's PID, and unambiguously formatted and presented in a way that computer processes – including AI – can easily act upon. In this way FDOs promises greater discoverability and machine actionability of research objects, allowing us to use the world’s research data more efficiently. However, FDOs are seen by many as overly complex and difficult to implement. Our session aims to demystify the concepts involved, and build a bridge between producers and users of "FAIR data" and "FAIR DO" proponents through examples illustrating what is required to upgrade digital objects from basic “FAIR for humans” to fully-fledged FDOs.

PID Metaresolver to Support Data Management Processes
(National Library of Technology, 2024) Bingert, Sven; Zamani, Themis
How can scientists or software integrate the data into analysis processes using PIDs? The dynamic developments face major challenges, which consists of the multitude of PID systems used and organisations involved. Unambiguous identification of information has always been an issue that cuts across all specialist areas. Identifiers have also been developed in various disciplines for different purposes and are still actively used today. The PID Metaresolver consists of a scalable backend, an API for use in automated processes and a UI for resolving and checking PIDs. To be inclusive the PID Metaresolver is extensible and also allows new PID service providers to register their service.
