Understanding what makes persistent identifiers “persistent”

Abstract

Different PIDs within the research community have different infrastructures, interests, values and serve different needs of the community while collaborating with each other. The nature of persistent identifiers not only requires technical capabilities but also requires communities to bring them together. For PIDs to be useful to the community, the persistence of identifiers needs to be preserved and maintained. In this session we aim to explore the role of community in the usage and adoption of persistent identifiers. We look to understand which components of the community and what sort of ecosystems would nurture the success of PIDS and continue to make it persistent over time.
