Building RDM and OS Skills from the Ground Up

Abstract

Funding agencies increasingly emphasize Open Science (OS) and Research Data Management (RDM) practices in the projects they support. Researchers at all career stages, while experts in their fields, often lack training in these areas, which can lead to unnecessary frustration and complications. To address this, I deliver introductory seminars and webinars on OS and RDM, complemented by practical workshops such as Dataset preparation for Zenodo or Creating data management plans in the Data Stewardship Wizard. These educational activities, which take place at UCT Prague, NTK, and EOSC CZ, lay the groundwork for the development of data competencies and provide a strong foundation for further tailored consultations. I provide these not only to researchers at UCT Prague but also to researchers coming through NTK under the auspice of the NCIS R&D&I (NCIP VaVaI) project, where particular focus is placed on early career researchers, who often act as data stewards on their supervisors’ projects and can benefit greatly from building these skills early in their careers.
