Do Organisms Need an Impact Factor? Other Use Cases for PIDs

Abstract

In 2013 the RRID Project was started, which aimed to help authors identify all ‘key biological resources’, support the proper citation and authentication of each resource, and enable the FAIR sharing of resource information. These ‘key biological resources’ are all uniquely identifiable via their Research Resource Identifier (#RRID), a PID assigned to help researchers cite key resources (antibodies, model organisms, and software projects) in the biomedical literature to improve the transparency of research methods. In our session, we would like to highlight the importance of using RRIDs across the research cycle and adopting them as a PID for scholarly publishing.
