PID Policy & Implementation: 2 years of an EOSC Association Task Force
(National Library of Technology, 2024) Kalman, Tibor; Zamani, Themis
This contribution reports about the EOSC Association's Task Force on “PID Policy & Implementation” (PID TF) and the work carried out during the 2-years mandate of the Task Force. The PID TF is a balanced group of PID users, PID providers, as well as PID experts (including domain- and technology experts). One of the main activities of the EOSC’s PID Task Force is the liaison, monitoring and collaboration with the related initiatives (e.g. funded projects working with persistent identifiers, groups working on national PID policies, etc). The core activities of the PID TF were organized into focus groups, each assigned with specific objectives. The first focus group worked on mapping PID-related activities by compiling a comprehensive list of PID-related projects, infrastructures, providers. The aim was to identify a subset of PID types that could be the primary focus for EOSC and a list of PID-related projects and providers with the goal of helping PID-interested adopters get started using PID in the context of EOSC.

A Consortium for Persistent Identifiers: ePIC
(National Library of Technology, 2024) Kalman, Tibor; Zamani, Themis
The ePIC (Persistent Identifier Consortium for eResearch) initiative aims to provide a robust infrastructure for registering and resolving persistent identifiers (PIDs) for the broader research community. ePIC's main goal is to set up and maintain highly reliable, persistent and highly performant services for PIDs. This is achieved through a network of major data centers that share the same service, the same API and that have implemented a redundancy scheme.
